the Hemlock House

A Space for Working Artists

The Hemlock House is nestled deep in the Pisgah National Forest of Western, NC, in a remote and truly bucolic setting. Since 2019, the home has operated as an artist residency program having hosted artists from multiple disciplines. Actors, multi-media and conceptual artists, photographers, writers, dancers and musicians have filled the home’s rooms pursuing either solo or collaborative endeavors.

In hosting residencies, it is our greatest hope that working artists find a sense of peace, creative invigoration, respite and focus while being untethered from the hustle & bustle of the world below. It is also our hope that each artist will find inspiration in learning about the history of this little ghost town and the wonders of the forest surrounding it.

We’ve been honored to share this space with such talented folks such as XOXO Ensemble, 181 Collective, Sonja Lanford Photography, Robot Muse Art, Melissa Stutts Art, and Audrey Baran of Baran Dance.

Contact us for more information on upcoming residencies and how to apply.
